reopen our schools: Nigeria students tell government ahead of Nationalwide protest tomorrow

Tomorrow's It appears a lot of Nigerian students are not currently satisfied with the situation of things going around the country. While many may not know, the Nigerian schools most especially the tertiary institutions have been under lock and key for the past 5months.

Earlier this year before coronavirus broke out, there has been series of battle between the Nigerian government and ASUU(Academic Staff Union of Universities) which was not resolved.

Even with that, the coronavirus complicated the whole issue and all tertiary institutions had to come under lock and key. With the Coronavirus still in place, ASUU then went on to declare an indefinite strike action which has not been resolved till date.

While a lot of businesses and organizations are reopening, it appears there is no end in sight yet as schools still remain under lock and key.

In lieu of this, the body of university students named National Association of University Students (NAUS) in an official letter to all university student union government called on them to join hands in order to organize a peaceful protest for the reopening of schools.

In the letter signed by Ibrahim Muhammed Lawal the Senate President, the association request the SUGs to be part of the peaceful protest scheduled to hold on Wednesday 19th of August, 2020 at the federal ministry of education in Abuja.

The protest which will take place in less than 24hours is jointly organized by the leadership of National Association of University Students (NAUS), National Association of Polytechnic Students(NAPS), and National Association of Nigerian college of Education Students(NANCES).

The goal of the protest will be to demand for the immediate reopening of schools around the country. The various tertiary institutions SUGs have been mandated in the letter to organize students for the nationwide protest.
