Ten previous day, 23rd of July, 2020 left a mark on the sand of Nigerian History. The landmark can never be blown away by the wind of time nor swept away by the flood of time. History was made yesterday as the first ever Nigerian Combat Helicopter Pilot, Tolulope Arotile was laid to rest. It was such a big occasion as it was graced by many dignitaries. Many well-meaning and high-ranking Nigerians came to bid the flying officer the final farewell and to pay tribute to the deceased for the work she had done. 

Tolulope Arotile has left a scar on the heart of many Nigerians. Only those who are concerned can feel the pain; Tolulope Arotile was gone too soon. She was just unfolding her potentials; what a promising and go-getter young lady was lost! The pain and sorrow can only be wiped because she died for a good purpose. She died for the right call. It is a great privilege to die while serving your country. Tolulope Arotile was a brave and gallant woman who lived her life to show how far a woman can go. She has left many doors unlocked for her fellow women. 

These are the ten things that happened during her final burial ceremony yesterday.

It was “STAR-STRUDDED’’

The first thing that we noticed at the final burial of Tolulope Arotile was that it was star-studded. Many dignitaries were present to pay their honor. We saw the Governor of Kogi State, Governor Yahaya Bello. We saw the Chief of Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar. We saw a lot of dignitaries who came to pay tribute to the deceased.

FUNERAL SERMON

A Funeral Sermon was delivered during the final burial of the late flying officer. The Man of God who delivered the sermon says that the death of Tolulope Arotile is so catastrophic and he described Tolulope as a highly committed and patriotic officer who served her country with all her might and power.  

A Military Rite was done

The third thing is that a complete military burial was granted by her family. So, a military rite was held in her memory. Militants from various battalions were present yesterday to perform the final rite to their colleague. They laid wreaths, matched and did so many things that should be done. The Nigerian Air Force Chaplain also prayed and chanted the anthem.

high Level of Compliance to the COVID-19 Guidelines

The fourth thing we noticed at the funeral of Tolulpe Arotile was a high level of compliance with the COVID-19 guidelines. Every guideline was strictly followed. As you can see from the pictures, everyone was on nose mask. There is social distancing and lots more.

The Moment when the Mother of Tolulope burst into tears

Another thing that also happened was the emotional moments when the family of the bereaved; her mother and other relatives burst into tears and they started consoling each other; it was very touching.

The Uniform of the Bereaved Family

The bereaved family members dressed in uniform. A kind of brown garment with black scarf was the uniform. It was very agony to watch them like that. God will console them in Jesus name.

How the Corpse was brought in… 

The corpse of Tolulope Arotile was brought in a coffin with a green and white cloth to show how patriotic she was. This is the picture of the corpse below:

When her corpse was brought in, there was a long red carpet that was already on the floor where they matched in with her body. It was heavenly!

How her Corpse was lowered in the Grave

After her corpse had been lowered in a well-tiled grave, her mother and few relatives took the shovel to pour sand on her corpse. Later, some people came to cover the grave

A Minute of Silence

Lastly, as per norm, a minute of silence was observed in remembrance of the late flying officer. 

We pray that Tolulope Arotile rests in perfect peace. Also, for her family that she left behind, may God personally console them.
